Detailed Description

The ability to SCUBA dive is an important practical skill for marine biologists. The field course allows students to gain internationally recognised PADI Open Water Diver certification, and to critically evaluate the possibilities and limitations afforded by SCUBA diving to studies in the marine environment.

Travel arrangements: Return charter flights between UK and Lanzarote, outbound 20th January and return 27th January 2018. Exact flight times will be provided in the pre-departure information pack. Transport between Lanzarote airport and Costa Volcan will be by local coach.

Accommodation: Twin share rooms, with en-suite bathroom

Meals: Meals are not included, and may be taken at local restaurants.

Cancellation: Travelling cannot be guaranteed to be completely safe. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) summarises that there is a threat of terrorism in Spain (The Canary Islands are a Spanish territory). Acts of terrorism occur worldwide, including the UK. Importantly the FCO does not consider the risk of terrorism sufficiently great to include Spain on the list of countries that it advises against all or all but essential travel to. FCO advice will be checked regularly, and if travel to Spain is advised against, the trip will be cancelled. The trip will go ahead unless there are good reasons for cancellation. What constitutes a 'good reason' will be subject to negotiation between ourselves (Anglia Ruskin University) and the tour operators (Holiday Designers). Ultimately, the tour operator will take the decision about cancellation and return of deposits or other payments. If the tour operator considers the trip safe but you choose not to go, then you will not be entitled to a return of your deposit or other payments.
