Domestic Chainsaw

During this four hour course you will gain an understanding of the correct procedures and safe working practices for using a chainsaw and manual log splitting at home.

Course Description

You will learn:

  • personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • safe use in the working environment
  • hazard identification
  • correct work positioning
  • using correct fuel
  • oil mixtures and chain lubrication
  • maintenance of the saw
  • sharpening of the chain
  • starting and stopping procedures
  • storing your machine when not in use
  • log splitting with hand tools

You are welcome to bring your own saw if you need specific advice but use of them on site will not be permitted.

The instructor/student ratio is 1:8.

Free parking is available on Writtle campus: we'll issue a permit to you and ask that it's clearly displayed in your vehicle. Tea and coffee-making facilities are available; please bring any other refreshments.
